On the weekend, I rode to Licola to spend some time with my parents, my two brothers and sister and their families.

It was a fairly uneventful trip along the freeway to Moe and then inland to avoid the traffic chaos caused by the recent heavy rains and mudslides further along the freeway. The roundabout in Moe is more like an ovalabout and the turnoffs are not well signposted so after a quick stop at the local cop shop to ask for directions I was back on my way.

I headed out from Moe towards Yallourn. From the crest of every hill around here it seems that you can see the cooling towers of power stations, but I was quite surprised to pass right by the ones at Yallourn North.

Once past the power station, I headed on to Toongabbie where I chanced upon a lovely little cemetery and stopped to take some photos. Then on to Glengarry, Tyers and Heyfield before heading into the hills to Glenmaggie where I used to go for school camps. Lake Glenmaggie stretched out blue and cool, separated from the road by campgrounds full of caravans and trailers and people on holidays.

Further along the road in Glenmaggie and still beside the lake at the Licola turnoff, I discovered a small cemetery so of course I had to stop and take some more photos to add to my collection. I called Fran to let her know where I was since I would likely lose signal when I headed into the hills.

The last 50 kms to Licola greeted me with magnificent vistas and twisty roads that were excellent riding. I arrived early in the afternoon to find my nieces and nephews playing on the flying fox and the high ropes. It was nice to catch up with everyone.
